Why Foundations Move in Guthrie
Logan County sits on Permian red bed soil: shale, siltstone, and clay layered with gypsum. That red clay is the part that causes trouble. It swells when it soaks up water and shrinks hard when it dries out, and Oklahoma's swing between soggy springs and dry summers keeps that cycle going year after year.
A foundation that sits on soil doing that is never quite standing still. Most of the time the movement is slow and small. Over years it can crack slabs, tilt piers, and pull door frames out of square.
